i am glad to see you here

I am a retired academic and clinical therapist. I think of this time as my ‘third life’. My first life was family, school and university, and my second life was working in hospitals, day centres and universities. My retirement has become a third life, where I can travel, remember and reflect on people and events from my past and write brief semiautobiographical stories. What is special about a third life is that without the regular demands of a job, each day becomes a creative venture, within the richness of time.

This website is a repository of my writing, past and present. I hope the reader will enjoy the tender moments of the stories or consider their resonance with personal experiences. I was born in a colonial country (Southern Rhodesia) and have lived in 4 countries, including 20 years in apartheid South Africa. I recognised, during my PhD, that my life and memories were complex and contradictory, and that to be honest about what happened can be painful and shameful to recall. It is with this exploration that I have attempted to keep the narrative as close as possible to a lived truthfulness without seeking to blame circumstances or people for mistakes I have made.

What Inspires My Writing

This gallery is a window into the moments, places, and details that stir my creativity. From quiet landscapes to fleeting scenes of daily life, these images reflect the world that shapes my words.
